Brittney,

Well said. I always try to remember to stop and wait after I read a story
that takes the helpless victim angle before I say anything I might regret,
but it is just hard to remember to separate out the reporter from the
subject. Sigh. It always helps me to turn it around on myself and wonder
if I would brave enough to go the press in the first place knowing what
might come of it. /smile/ Come to think of it, I may be getting closer to
be in a position to do that on another matter of concern to me in a way that
might have an effect... Will I have the guts if and when I do reach that
point? Beats me. I need to go hide under my bed just thinking about it.
/smile/

Dear all,
I am so sorry if I have offended anyone. I think it is excellent that Mr.
Vaughan is speaking out about an issue that is really important and really

needs to be delt with. It's just I feel the reporter makes him seem
helpless and I don't like that. I am not judging Vaughan , I can't because

I don't know him. I just think he should have been represented better by
the reporter. I have nothing against other countries or guide dog schools,
I just think blind people should be seen as people, not helpless victoms.

I rarely post to this list but had to say thank you to Meghan for her post.
I've read messages further on to hers and they sure remind me why I don't
post here!

This is the second time I've seen a person, both persons being from here in
the UK, be ripped to bits by members of this list. The other was regarding
the story about Tom Pey. I can't understand why people feel the need to be
so judgmental, we all know what the press is like and stories often get
distorted.

We happen to be having a very big campaign regarding dog attacks on guide
dogs just at the moment, we being us guide dog owners and GDBA, as it is
imperative we get something done about it as many guide dogs have been
attacked and had to retire in recent times. so of course the press are
going to make it sound as bad as they did. Who can know what this
gentleman's circumstances are, why should anyone judge him if he feels he
can't get out with his cane?

Please, I'd ask you all to remember that there is always more than one side
to a story, and to try to be more tolerant, and to remember that people from
the country you are talking about just might be reading and be pretty mad
with the assumptions you come up with about their country and the people
living in it, and also their guide dog school!

Tracy from the UK.
