You are working a guide horse?? I would love to hear more about that. I
don't know if I'd give up my furry dogs for horses but was raised around
them all of my life and really thought about checking into training.

No, I was not at the National Convention this year. I believe that might
have been Cheryl Spencer, a guide horse user from Jacksonville, Florida.
Her guide horse is named Confetti.

As I said in another post, I have not actually flown with Panda. I tried to
make plane reservations to fly with her in 2004, I think it was, from Albany
NY to Bermingham, AL, but ran into difficulty in the final analysis with the
FAA, or at least that was what I was told. The airline did not out-and-out
refuse to allow us to fly. They just said that the FAA must determine on a
case-by-case basis whether it is safe to fly with a miniature horse in the
cabin based on the size and configuration of the plane and other factors.

Subsequent to that experience, I did contact Delta Airlines and arranged for
their representative who is responsible for dealing with issues concerning
passengers with disabilities to come to Albany and meet us and see how Panda
works. At that time we went onto a plane which was parked to show the
representative how and where Panda could ride in the cabin and to show him
that she was a well-behaved and legitimate working guide. He took photos
and seemed satisfied with our demonstration. But I have not attempted to
fly with Panda since that time, so still don't know exactly how it would
work out.

Other guide horse users have flown with their miniature horse guides in the
airplane cabin, including Dan Shaw several times with his guide horse
Cuddles, and Cheryl Spencer with Confetti. I believe that Dan made
arrangements ahead of time with the airline. I believe Cheryl just showed
up at the gate and expected service like any other traveler, and got it.

By the way, Cheryl and Confetti have also gone on a cruise ship, at least
once. The instance I am aware of was not an overnight cruise, but was a
5-hour cruise, I think, on a ship with a casino. As I understand it, the
ship captain was skeptical at first, but was completely won over by the end
of the cruise. If you want to contact Cheryl Spencer, I believe she has a
webpage, and can be found through a search.

Best,
Ann
