[nagdu] renting homes or apartments:

We rented out a home we had previously lived in. My understanding was that we could not actively discriminate but that we could also say no to any applicant so long as we didn't use race, religion, disability as a reason. So say if Lynn wanted to rent from us and we didn't want Landon, we could say "We are thinking of moving back into the house" or "Grandma is going to move in so we're taking it off the market" and there'd not have been anything Lynn could do. The rules change if you're renting an apartment or if you have more then four properties.

People who know me know that I'm an upfront, honest person. I'm a responsible dog owner and my dogs are clean and well behaved in public - and at home. (grin!)

Is it a bad idea to first show up and sign a lease with no dog then move in with the dog? I ask this since a group of people I personally know are moving into some buildings where under no circumstance are pets permitted. In addition, since different rules apply when one rents from a management company verses a private landlord in a house, what is a good technique since they will already have a bias toward the visible blindness. My personal interest in this issue is because I maybe moving in the next year out-of-state to MA where different housing rules apply in Boston unlike New York City. Thank you.
