[nagdu] Grating

The driveway leading to our local Dunkin Donuts has a grating across it,
with big holes.  The one time I went there, Ben totally did not want to
step on it, and I couldn't blame him.  I think I ended up carrying him the
5 feet or so over the grating, with my husband leading the way.  I haven't
been back.  My dog-carrying days are pretty much over, except in an
emergency.
Anyone have any idea how to deal with this grate?  I've thought about
bringing the bath mat and throwing it over the grate, but I'm not crazy
about that.  That darned grating is coming between me and donuts!
