Missing Guide Dog Found

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A good Samaritan and a piece of technology
are to thank for the reunion of a Springfield man and the friend
he says he relies on every day-- a service dog that disappeared
without a trace earlier this week.
 
Ronald Carter and his service dog, Casey, have been inseparable
for four years. The feeling he got when Casey disappeared is one
he will never forget.
 
He said "it was very frightening. Casey is my life. Without him,
I am really lost, so it was frightening."
 
Casey had been on the front porch of Carter's home getting some
fresh air, but when Carter went to let Casey back in, he was
gone. Neighbors including Hadassah Va Shem began frantically
searching for the missing dog.
 
Va Shem herself uses a guide dog and has had hers get away for a
little while. Being all too familiar with the feeling of being
without your main lifeline, she helped search for more than eight
hours all over the Springfield area.
 
She said, "This dog takes you to the store; they cross the street
properly so you aren't in danger."
 
A Neighbor found Casey and brought him to the humane society,
where they were able to identify the dog thanks to a micro chip
carter had implanted in the dog.
 
The 12 hours that Carter and Casey were separated are 12 hours he
said never wants to go through again because life without Casey
is not something he wanted to think about.
