[nagdu] Discrimination

I myself feel especially since I was not born blind, and had learned over the past 8 years who to get skills and mobility, etc to try and become as independent as I can.
Unfortunately, in our own country, we have to do this. We have to fight as Marion and others said at NAGDU Seminar in Orlando, when someone asked what does NAGDU do.
We represent the consumer, we not only represent ourselves for others who need the help.
If everything in the world worked the way it is supposed. People would hire the blind with no problems and we wouldn't worry about the workforce bill to pay people with disabilities below the minimum wages. We wouldn't be worried about our people in congress democrat or republican, whether or not we are going to get our disability checks, or medicare paid or veterans taken care of.
This hotline is necessary to help and get the right answers out to the public and consumers, even the police departments don't know the laws in their own states.

Rebecca, I agree with you totally and get your point.
I have often said on these lists that it's a sad commentary on our situation
as blind people that, after more than eighty years of guide dog training
here in the USA, we still need to worry about access.
That isn't to say, of course, that I don't applaud and other
consumer organizations who are taking up the gauntlet on this issue.
Cordially,
Dan and the Carter Nut

Referring to Marion's post on committing the NAGDU hotline to memory, is
anybody else bothered by the fact that this even has to be done?
I have very few phone numbers stored in my head, mostly due to the fact that
my cell phone stores numbers. So, my point is that a number must both be
really important, and be used a whole heck of a lot for me to have it in my
head.
Nobody in this day and age should have a need to use NAGDU's hotline that
frequently.
See the problem, guys?

Gloria,
I'm curious, why are you worried about this now? Is there a deeper issue?
I ask because it never crossed my mind to worry about this issue. Maybe that
was because I was young and niaeve.
Access issues suck, so I'm curious to know why you'd choose to get a dog if
this weighs heavily on you.
