This not noticing different dogs etc., I think, has nothing to do 
with dogs, guide dogs, or blindness.  People are just remarkably 
unobservant.  I have had a full beard for must of my adult life, but 
shaved for one period of time.  Some people didn't notice the change 
for 3 months.  And ... there were probably others who never noticed.
