Hi Bob,
My name is Steve and I am a professional working in the human service
profession for county government. I am working my 3rd guide and she is a
laid back 5.5 year old black lab. She rests calmly each day at my desk, and
gets a good work out after work, sometimes before work, and even at lunch.
I make sure to balance that work for her, as I know she will be idle for
longer periods of time. All 3 of my guides have been in similar work
environments and I have never had any problems. Bob, I think you will enjoy
the freedom that a dog can provide you.

Regards,
Steve Johnson

Bob,

Welcome to the list. I'm Marsha, working my second guide, Emma, from The
Seeing Eye. Currently I am a full time student at the local community
college, but will be transferring to Temple University in the fall. I am not
a traditional student, as I am returning to school after my children and my
situation has changed. I am also the mother to three children, who are 14,
13, and 11 years old.

To answer your question. Generally, the pups adjust to whatever lifestyle
you have. If he/she gets enough exercise, then there should be no problem
with boredom. But now with that said, it really depends on the dog. Do tell
the school you will be receiving your guide from, what your lifestyle is.

Out of all the places we go, I find Emma loves working my college campus the
most. Granted I am a student, and not a professor.

As far as the list goes, there are times the list is super busy. And other
times, the list is super slow. It really varies to what the discussion is.

If I may ask, what school are you going to be attending? I by no means am
asking so that I can say that it is a good or bad school. More curious than
anything.

Also, I am one of three moderators on this list, so if you need anything,
please please do let me know.

Have a good day!
Marsha

Good Morning,

I subscribed to this list over the weekend. I have been a long-term cane
user but am now convinced that a dog guide will provide greater freedom and
flexibility in my world. I am scheduled to receive training and a dog this
summer. I am wondering if there are any public school or university
teachers on this list who are dog users. I have wondered how the dogs
function in an environment in which they are on the job among lots of people
and in a variety of meetings for eight hours daily. In addition to being a
teacher, I am also a university department head and spend a good deal of
time behind my desk dealing with paperwork, students, faculty, and other
administrators. Will the dog become excessively restless and do the dogs
simply adapt reasonably rapidly.

I have no problem providing the dog with long walks daily and a good
environment at home where it will be taken care of and played with but I
have wondered how the dogs handle the stress of the work environment.
Anyone with experience who wishes to comment on this will be much
appreciated.

On another matter, I am curious as to whether there is much traffic on this
list.

Information will be welcome.

Regards,

Bob Martin
