Alysha,
Yes, I clip both of my dogs' nails. I have a Pedi Paws and traditional
clippers. I find the clippers to be faster, but the Pedi Paws gives a
smoother edge. Others here use a more powerful nail grinder and report
needing to grind for just a few seconds making the time much less than what
I experience with the Pedi Paws.
I like the nail clippers that resemble a cross between pliers and scissors.
Also spending a bit more to get a quality pair does make things easier. I
bought a pair at Wal-Mart and they are totally useless. They might work on
a cat or Chihuahua, but not on my lab mixes.
I place the nail in the clippers with one finger on the portion of the nail
sticking out the other side so I can feel how much I'm clipping and also to
make sure I have the nail positioned where I want it. Then clip firmly and
quickly. I just trim off the very tips of the nails. My method is to trim
a little bit more frequently so I don't need to worry so much about getting
too close to the quick.
HTH
Julie
