[nagdu] Blind Woman With Guide Dog Says Midtown Eatery Would Not Serve Her

Sheila,

Yikes! That's awful. I wish I had something useful to offer, but sorry.
Not a sausage. /smile/

Hang in there! Having other people try to control your dog is dangerous to
both of you. For an employer to try to dictate how you get to and from
work... Absurd!

So I just wanted to let you know that I'm angry on your behalf and hope you
find out how to resolve the issue. It sounds like there are laws involved
that are being broken, but that's about all I know. I'm glad you shared
with all of us, because any of us could find ourselves in that sort of
situation. I hope you can get the information you need and know how to
proceed with this nonsense. Ugh!

Cheers,

Tami Smith-Kinney

Marion have a situation at work. People seem to think that our new dogs
aren't behaving the way they think they should and have the right to try to
direct them. Unfortunately they know next to nothing about guide dogs the
training or what a dog is capable of. They think that I need to comply with
there judgment calls. I work very part time and they seem to think that
dictating how I get to work is there concern. I don't agree since i'm pretty
sure I'm not covered by there insurance. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Sheila,
I agree with you. I believe society has expectations of how someone of a

particular class is supposed to act and, when they do not fit into their
stereotype, confuse assertiveness with aggression. this being said, I also
believe it is important to handle such situations calmly, yet assertively.
The law is on our sides and we need to learn how to take advantage of that
fact.

Fraternally yours,
Marion
