[nagdu] Hiking

Gary,

I love the way Mitzi goes bounding ahead then comes bounding back to check
in. /smile/ When she's off leash, she will scope out what's ahead, then
report back if there's anything I need to worry about. I need to acquire a
couple of trekking poles this year... And a bus pass to get to the trails!
I keep trying to talk my roommates into going hiking, but they're big
woosies, and my former hiking buddy is off to law scholl so... Will have to
see what I can do!

Hi Tracy:

Living in Vancouver Canada is a lucky place too. I used to date a girl with
a car and we did all kinds of hikes. Once I started dating my current
girlfriend (now of 7 years) who doesn't drive by choice, I decided to see
where city transit would get us. To my surprise, we are able to get to
almost all the hikes I used to get to by car. Yes, it takes a bit longer but
who wants to have to drive after hiking 13 km in the foot hills. Last year
Susan had hurt her leg so Bogart only had one stinf of about 5 days of
hiking in the mountains. He seemed to do really well, no cut feet. Did worry
about him falling off drop offs but after a couple of close calls (that is
why they have four paws) he seemed to figure it out better. He is great off
leash wehn we hike running a bit ahead and then coming back to check in with
Susan and then further back to see me. I use 2 trekking poles when not using
Bogart. We are able to tackle most things. I'm obviously slower with my
poles than a sighted person but Susan says she enjoys hiking with me because
I make her look around, partly to tell me what I'm going to encounter and
partly because she has time to look around rather than just focussing on the
trail to keep up to her friends.

Gary
