I am not actually commenting on buying a harness becaue I have always used the ones provided by Guide Dogs, but I would like to way on the topic of the personal about to use a guide or not. It is one of those personal choices that must be entered into with much emotional maturity and forthought. It is literally almost like deciding to have a child. These dogs give of themselves so much that they would literally die for their handlers and never question it. I learned this in vivid detail when hearing of the guides that were in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Personally, I have been using dogs for almost eighteen years and I know for me I would never look back. I have heard it said, and I agree, that using a long cane is like driving a Pento and working a dog like driving a Farari. I agree!! I have traveled to foreign countries, attended college, cruised, and been in Washington by myself when America suffered the loss of the Space Shuttle Columbie, in 2003. While I realize that I could have done all of these things with my cane, which I use well, I know that having my dogs at my side made me much for confident as a woman and it has also allowed to make contact with people who are close friends and have been for years. Thios choice also must be made by the friends of family of the blind person. I say this, because if those in your life either won't or can't support your choice to get a dog, it will not work. They must know that you still love and need them, but you may need less or in a different way. I hope this helps. I was nineteen years old when I trained with my first dog and I have seen people a few years younger and lots older train and succeed. I hope these words help you in your thought process.

(especially curious at the dentist :). I try to explain to him if he doesn't let me brush his teeth he'll end up having to get his teeth cleaned like this.
