I just really think that's the key. The excitement is gone once he has the route figured out and he's bored. I did discover that sometimes in my effort to get my dog to speed up I talk to him too much and he goes a little faster if I can just shut my mouth and try to relax, but it is irritating. I know there isn't anything wrong with the fella, though, because he can really go when he's excited.
