Hi Chantel,
A freelance class takes place well into guide dog training when the team has 
a solid bond foundation and the trainers feel confident in the team enough 
to step back a bit and allow more independence.  Small groups of dogs and 
students, maybe two or three teams to one trainer, will go out and do an 
activity or walk, like an easy leisurely hike, shopping, things like that.
