Well, of course it is an issue that some may not have gathered enough information, and then a counselor or a job specialist should be willing to help the student research, but a very motivated person can learn all kinds of stuff about the interest because the internet has a world of stuff, something not available to me as a young person.

I aggree with Cindy that it helps to know something about what you want to do but if you're young you may not have gathered enough knowledge yet! The counsellors job is to help and guide you with your endeavors not to hinder you! Some counsellors seem to forget that!

A VRC, basically told me in a much more long-winded rant that if I wanted to go into Massage Therapy that I wouldn't be successful, and that if I wanted to "eat" I should think about a different career. What that lucrative career was he couldn't say. Eventually, I decided not to go into massage therapy, however it wasn't because of what this moron had to say. When a VRC tells a blind consumer that he or she cannot pursue a certain career it is a slap in the face to that blind persons intelligence. I for one, would not go into an office and say I want to pursue career X without thoroughly researching and exploring said career. VRC's are not experts in all fields. In fact, they are far from it.

The NFB is a consumer organization that provides advocacy support to the blind. We are here to help you get the quality training you deserve and that is available to you.
