Mark,

Hey! I've been wondering how your new school year is going for you. Di
you get a dog? How was your summer orientation on campus. Inquiring
minds want to know! /grin/

Thanks for the mention of Dick Davis. I've been honored to learn quite a
bit from him over the past few years from reading on the rehab
counselors list. I get a lot of positive examples there and good answers
when I come back with more questions about what I keep finding in Oregon.

He has offered to help me get into an NFB Center... Unfortunately, that
was at about the time my mother died last spring, so I need to wait
until Dad decides what he will do, and Wayne and I have been waiting on
Dad to figure out what we're going to do, so... /lol/ Well, we want to
relocate from our present location and want to leave ourselves free to
move to where he wants to go on living if we need to. We're starting to
make some decisions for ourselves, since we would rather stay around
here, but we're not rushing to commit ourselves. Once we buy something
here, we won't be free to move to La Grande, so...

The upshot being that I won't be able to find 6 to 9 months to go to any
NFB Center until we're all settled, so I don't want to waste Mr. Davis'
efforts only to have to tell him thanks, but I can't go. /shudder/

I am drafting up a letter to him asking if would take a substitute
candidate for his assistance with the Oregon agency in the hopes tha
this getting one person to an NFB center might break open the dam of
refusal... I do not know this mystery candidate I just picked out of the
air last week, but...

Anyway, I went Linux at last this summer and have been tackling the
learning curve with the Orca screen reader and all the changes in Linux
like ther is no tomorrow. Now that I'm working and actually getting
things done and getting to more advanced projects, that is a big relief.
I may evnevn be in the process of acquiring a real braille display...
It's in the works, and I still can't believe any such thing is possible.
/lol/ That will make a huge difference for me, though.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I hope you are doing well over
there in Boston!

Tami
