Wow, what an insult that man's remarks were! I have felt good that someone told me that I didn't seem to be blind because I didn't need help, and now it has occurred to me that it is hardly a compliment. It implies that you have to be helpless if you are really blind, especially totally blind. That, of course, is what "blind" means to such people.
