Author and businessman Michael Hingson is in Rock Hill this week to promote
his book and share how he made it out of the World Trade Center as it
crumbled during the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Blind since birth, Hingson has made headlines for telling the story of how
his guide dog led him from the 78th floor to safety.

He will be signing copies of his book "Thunder Dog, A Blind Man, His Guide
Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero" from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at
Winthrop University's bookstore in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.

On Friday, Hingson will be keynote speaker at a breakfast gathering to kick
off the United Way of York County's fall fundraising campaign.

A few free tickets to the breakfast and speech are still available, Lora
Holladay, United Way's community investment director, said.

Contact the United Way of York County for details: 803-324-2735;
www.unitedwayofyc.org.

The breakfast begins at 8 a.m. Friday in the Richardson Ballroom in the
DiGiorgio Campus Center.
