Wow, you have a lot of adventures to look forward to. That must have been a horrific break, and I don't remember what all you said about it, but yes, casts are definitely torture devices.

I doubt I will ever walk at the same fast pace. I've lost a fair bit of motion in the ankle, which will make balancing difficult. It is quite common with this type of injury to have difficulty standing for long periods of time and walking on uneven terrain. I'm hoping to be able to walk short distances by Thanksgiving. I want to be able to walk from the curb into a building by myself by then. I think walking to work or the grocery store are a longer way off.

I think at first when I'm moving pretty slow that I'll be able to follow his movements as well as have the balance support all with the upright handle. I'm thinking eventually I'll need to switch back and forth between the rigid handle and a guide handle. I'll figure something out or perhaps take it to a local leather worker to see if he can add some D rings for me. I haven't had a leather harness in years and years. It will be different, that's for sure.

>> Oh, I agree with you. Why shouldn't they be able to do the laundry. It would be different if you were alone. I never made a move to do it when I was using the wheelchair. How long before your foot will be back to normal. Will you be wearing a boot for a few weeks?

I can begin putting weight on the foot on the twelfth. I'm planning on teaching Monty the new harness work as I need it. So we'll be learning the new way of walking together. So far he's been great around the house with brace with no harness. He catches on to new things amazingly quickly. I think it will all go pretty smoothly.

I can't remember how you are getting about. Are you using crutches or a wheelchair or walker? I would forget the laundry and get the help.<Grin>
