That is actually a good thing the rescues do because they put them with a foster home and that foster parent has the opportunity to help screen potential pet owners. It is always nice if you can do it differently; when I was going to do that with my Golden Retriever, I dreaded it, too, and I was grateful that someone I knew decided to take him. This way, though, you pretty much are assured he gets a good space.
