The 53in is a good choice. NFB style canes are designed to go up to your 
nose, so if anything, it may be slightly too small. For example, I am 5ft 
11, and I have a 66 in Iowa style cane. The Iowa style cane is similar to 
the NFB cane.



With the tips on the NFB style cane, it is important to use a two point 
touch method, because if you drag the tip along the ground, from side to 
side, it will get stuck in absolutely everything. The two point touch method 
is when you tap 4 in outside your shoulder when you are stepping forward 
with the opposite foot. You lift the tip ½ inch off the ground, swing across 
as you are stepping forward with the other foot, and tap the ground about 4 
in outside the opposite shoulder as the foot you are stepping with. This 
sounds complicated, however, is very simple once you get the hang of it. If
