[nagdu] Good-bye my sweet angel

I don't write often, but Jennifer, the contract idea was *EXCELLENT*.

I've been following your story closely, and I just want to wish you well in
your endeavors whether getting a guide or not. You certainly went through
some similar circumstances I somewhat had with my first guide dog at a
different school, and am about to train with my third guide dog. Dog #2 and
#3 is with the same school I'm still attending.

Tons of hugs if you are willing to accept it virtually.

Jen, retired Nixon, and guide dog #3 at GDB in June.

I had them sign a contract giving them ownership after a three week trial
period.

I also put my email address and phone numbers on it so they could, if they
wanted to, let me know how he's doing every now and then.

I also put in the contract that he would be given back to me if they
couldn't take care of him or no longer wanted him.

Anyway, that's the deal.

live close enough that you could go visit? Did you tell them that you want
to know how things go? Just because the dog goes to a new home does not mean
that you have to cut all ties. Sometimes, knowing how the dog is doing can
help.

that. My guide, Spencer, when I gave him away, I thought I would just die,
and it was a long time before I got over it. But there was something I
learned that was at once painful and gratifying. The dog received a lot of
love; he went through two or three different owners after me through
circumstances. They were all good to him; all of them loved him. He adapted
well, and when I had him I would have never thought that would happen. I
think he was over me much, much sooner than I was over him. He is loved; he
will not be berating you for abandoning him. Dons don't work that way. What
should have been wasn't, now you are free to move forward as you grieve
him--and you will--but you can move forward. Just move cautiously, remember
him, the good and the bad, and be glad he was a part of your life.
