[nagdu] Dogs and health issues

Hi all, I used to be a vet tech. in my early 20's. Dogs in general were
much healthier in those days as compared to today. The changes in our
environment has a lot to do with that. People and dogs are more susceptible
to allergies now. Changes in dog foods that are not always best, the
chemicals found in our water and the air quality ect. These are all things
that have changed in our environment which we have little control of.Cancer
as well as many other diseases are on the rise in dogs as well as people.
Breeding dogs is also responsible for some genetic problems. While trying
to get the desired qualities in our dogs, we inadvertently end up with some
undesirable qualities as well. All we can do is try to keep our dogs as
healthy as possible through diet, proper vet care, medications and treatment
regiments as they are available. Their are no guarantees. Life is what it
is and we have little recourse on these things. I live in the southwest
where Valley fever is found in our desert soil. I have several dogs that
have it, and are on medication. They can live with it,but they can also
suffer complications and die.I do the best I can for them. I have several
dogs with allergies and feed them special food and give them medications
for that. I currently have a rescue dog that has bone cancer. We have done
what the vet said will help her, but in the end,she will die from it. There
are just no guarantees. I think all the guide dog schools do their best to
produce healthy well trained dogs. Some times it just doesn't work out.
