Hm... constant vigilance! Which does make bus/train riding a real pain.
How are you supposed to relax and enjoy the ride when you're constantly
rounding up paws, noses, tails, whole dogs...? /lol/
So the important thing is just keep insisting that the dog stays in a
safe position, rounding it back up again when it starts to sprawl out
into traffic lanes, etc. Finding the best way to space the dog so that
it has some comfort there can help, too. But the important thing is that
it stays within the safety zone!
I found what worked best with my sprawler was to just keep reworking
with positive conditioning... Or, if she was being snotty about the
whole thing to just physically scoot her into position, grumbling while
I did it to make up for the fact that the rest of the bus crowd thought
it was just so cu-ute. Sheesh! My little performance artist got quite a
bit of mileage out of *that* game. We started on uncrowded busses, so
she just thought I was being tiresome and bossy for no reason. Once we
moved up to crowded busses with people getting on and off, she began to
get the picture. Now, believe it or not, she's pretty diligent about
managing her own space. Most of the time. I always reward and praise her
a lot for getting into good position on her own, though. /smile/
Good luck!
