[nagdu] Pumpkin dog treaks and dog dreams

My dogs sometimes make noises in their sleep. I don't wake them up
usually, but I do put a gentle hand on their shoulder or side. a lot of
times this is all it takes for them to quiet. If that doesn't work I
will pet the dog very gently and sometimes talk soothingly. Usually
that will wake up the dog, but it always interrupts the dreams/nightmares.

I wouldn't suggest waking a sleeping dog abruptly. Just like people
they are going to be disoriented for a few seconds in the transition
between sleeping and waking and could confuse what was happening in the
dream with what is real.

I would also not suggest waking a dog who has serious aggression
issues. I know this is not the case with your guide, but it was the
case with a Beagle I had when I was a kid. Touching him when he was
sleeping was a sure way to get bitten. My approach with him was to
leave him alone if at all possible. If I couldn't do that, I'd talk to
him until he responded on his own.

So I guess dogs are like people in this regard. Most people, most of
the time are not going to mind too much if you wake them up, but every
now and then you will find a surprise.
