Matt,
Welcome to this list. I have my first guide dog, Anise, from Guide
Dogs For The Blind, and like you, I once had my uncertainties. The
dogs are trained to stop when they arrive at a curb. Then you probe or
examine the area with your foot. That is how you will know whether you
have came up to an up curb or down curb. Same goes for stairs. The dog
will stop at the top of the stairs if you are going down, and it will
place its front paws at the very birst step if you are going up the
stairs. As for other pets in the home, it is untrue that you can't
have them. My family currently has a yellow labrador as a pet, a
golden lab mix that we are training to be a guide dog for Guide Dogs
For The Blind, and my guide dog, Anise. Have you begun looking into
possible schools you might want to attend?
