Am I missing something here?
I thought Maya was a black lab.
Yes, I've used the chest pad with Odie at times and he had no trouble sleeping in his harness while the pad would be attached.
As for the prongs on the pad itself, no, they definitely don't dig deeply into the dog.
It helps get their attention.
Only dog that fought with it was Freedom David Berry, but it was because of his high anxiety of trafic scare, stress and aggression towards men.
