[nagdu] Breed traits

My shepherd was serious, but very worried about getting things right, and
very stressed about mistakes. He also had a habit of wanting to walk
exactly where he'd walked before, and other shepherd people have had the
same experience. They also have their own ideas about how things should be
done. "We can't possibly go that way. There's a pit filled with snarling
traffic that way!" When really they just don't want to go there. They want
to go somewhere new, or maybe somewhere they've been before.
They also don't much like being behind someone. They want to be in the
lead.

The goldens I've seen are delighted to please, and very careful with their
people's safety. Some are very silly and Wahoo!, but some are very serious.

I like labs best, though I'd take a different breed if that dog was best for
me. Labs can roll with whatever comes. They're calm, and not prone to
overstressing about mistakes, but they're also careful, though maybe not as
careful as a golden. They can walk behind someone else, or step out boldly
and take the lead.
And, at least with goldens, it seems like strangers are all over them, while
not quite so much with a lab, and even less with a shepherd.

There you go, a bunch of sweeping generalizations!
My Ben is sort of a shepherd in a lab suit, very alert, but not easily
stressed. My Echo was a golden, cleverly disguised as a black lab, very
sensitive and cautious.
My shepherd was from GDB, and they had serious issues in their shepherd
lines with anxiety, so that has probably colored my idea of shepherds.
Tracy
