Hi every one, Welcome to all the new people on the list. I hope you enjoy
this list as much as I do. I am Mardi and all of my guides have been
trained by myself with the help of a private trainer. I am currently
working my third guide, Shaman who is a Belgian Shepherd. I work my dogs
from a wheelchair as I have other disabilities as well as blindness. My
first 2 guides were Siberian Huskies and it has been my dream to find
another husky to train as my guide. Well, I finally have found a dog to
train as a possible guide for myself. She is a one year old female Black
and white, blue eyed Siberian Husky. Her name is Tipton. I am hoping this
one works out.She appears to be very healthy but of course she still has to
get all the necessary health checks and she will be spayed in six weeks.
Sadly, she has already had a litter of pups, which are unaccounted for as she
was picked up as a stray by Animal Control, and never claimed. She has
never had any training,so I am starting at the very beginning. She is
friendly and gets along very well with my dogs and all the rescue dogs
here. She is learning about cats. She is curious about them but not
aggressive towards them. She needs to gain a lot of weight as she is very
thin. She has a white tip on her tail and raccoon eyes and freckles on her
white nose. We are already bonding and she is smart and willing to learn
and wants to please me.I really hope this dog will become my next guide
dog. Shaman is in love with her.I can take my time training her as Shaman
will still be working for a long time to come.It will take a long time for
her to learn every thing, starting form just learning what sit means and
walking on leash. Then on to socialization and obedience and so on.I am
glad I don't need to rush her.She has a lot to learn.Tonight, she
discovered squeaker toys and she loves them! I don't think she ever had
toys before as at first she ignored them until I squeaked one and she got
excited and began to play with it and squeak it. I will have to hide the
toys at night or I will never get any sleep. Have a great day, Mardi and
Shaman and Tipton, hopefully, future guide dog.
