Hi my first dog was a very mellow black lab. He had shorter hair and didn't seem to shed as much. I think my golden shedds more but my golden isn't laid back at all. I know that the hair can be a pain but in your case if you get a poodle be sure that she has a temperment you can live with. My trainer knew that with my first dog if he were two fast or wild i'd be less willing to work with him and he turned out to be correct.
