I think Princess has an ear infection so I've been cleaning it out every
other day with the solution I purchased from the pet store  a while back.

Yes, I believe most dogs lick themselves, but it's to clean themselves up.
My dog does it too. It could be the subway, but it never hurts to check with
the vet. My dog had a weird smell as well, and I took her to the vet. Sure
enough, she had an ear infection. Hope you can figure out what it is soon
because no one likes having a smelly dog. Lol!
