[nagdu] tie downs

And while you may not care if he chews up "cheap college stuff" at some point, probably with this dog you'll have more expensive furniture that you will care about.
This sort of behavior would drive me nuts.

Hello:

What an interesting topic--maybe some more behavior exercises? Buy about 1587932 tie downs and correct him severely for chewing each one? Short of coaxial cable, maybe try putting a muzzle on him when you put him on tie-down? If I were in that situation, I would seriously consider a muzzle (or some other bite-prevention device)--his safety is more important than his freedom to use his jaws. If he is chewing cable he can break teeth, get metal splinters in his mouth, maybe swallow some, etc. At the very least, broken teeth will be a major problem with which to deal. If it were Bailey, I would muzzle him if I were to be gone for a few hours. I heard of a dog who chewed on his master's bedding and suffocated; that wouldn't exactly be a good thing to discover when you got home.

Nicole,

This is true. I wish I had a solution. He does not like tie downs and will get out of them given the chance. My dorm room is less than 7x12 so not much space to put a folding crate. However, that being sayed, with the exception of a cupple of power cords, there is nothing he could possibly chew on that isn't cheape college stuff, or indestructible to begin with.

Thanks,

Mark
