[nagdu] cooperation vs. force

I understand what Julie is saying. Yes there is always that one thing which could go wrong, or which could happen. But I have to walk a line between taking care of my dog and being too over protective. I want her to have the chance to be a dog, to run free and do dog stuff, and I love knowing that she will come back to me when I ask it.
There is a time and a place for freedom though and a dog park or farm or woods is different than a busy street.
I also want my dog to know that she can make a mistake and won't get punnished for it but it was a mistake. And that she can choose differently next time.
And there is a difference between mistake and distracted.
What ever I'm trying to say I'm doing it badly; just that it's a balancing act sometimes and does make me think about what I'm doing.

I think most of these dogs would probably hang around and do what I ask, though one day the little one got loose and didn't come back until I got lost looking for her. LOL. You know more about dogs than I do cause I haven't ever trained one, but I always think of that story about the one car that hit the dog and it was killed. Of course, there are no guarantees.
