[nagdu] Advice Requested

Why is that not a surprise? Sounds like harassment, honestly. Sigh.

I wonder if your trainer has any ideas for dealing with that side of
your new journey as a guide dog user? He might be able to get in touch
with someone at the school who knows more about legal issues... I'm just
guessing there, but it could be a possible source of assistance.

Sorry you're having to put up with that so soon in your guide dog using
life. It's a not uncommon form of harassment, I'm sorry to say. Whether
the substance in question has anything to do with your actual dog or not.

I'm hoping one of our legal eagles will pop up with some wisdom
regarding possible recourse and how to safely just draw the line and
refuse to back down. From your description, it sounds like there is a
non problem that somebody or other is making a problem over...

If it helps any, I've taken my dog out to do her bidness, when I was
living in my old apartment, and had her sniff around her regular spot
doing nothing because of the person leaning against a retaining wall
nearby carrying on about how he was going to call the cops if she did
anything on the public easement... When he started, I helpfully held up
my white plastic bag to indicate I was on the job, no worries. But he
kept going on about how my dog left her business there all the time and
I never picked it up and on and on. I looked at him again, held up the
white bag and waved it at him, then shrugged. There was, apparently,
another dog or possibly a pair of large dogs who did go along that
sidewalk regularly, while their humans just watched and walked on. But,
since there was a blind guide dog user who walked the same sidewalk and
stopped for bidness every now and then... Well, it was obvious who to
blame *that* on! I heard about it more than once. Again, my primary
response became holding up the bag already in position on my poop
picking up hand. I'd gotten a little tired of trying to have rational
dialog on the subject. If I acknowledged the rather earthy and worse
commentary, I would just say, "I pick up after my dog," wave the bag and
ignore it. Still! Who needs that in the middle of a freakin' winter's
night? What is *wrong* with some people?

Anyway, naturally with Mr. I'm gonna call the cops nattering on and
threatening on while I ignored him steadfastly, Mitzi decided she was
not interested in that location. I did not know whether to be relieved
or not. /lo/ I was half hoping she would do it, so that he would do it,
so that we could just address the issue with The Law... But since I'd
just wandered out for a late-night outing, I wasn't really dressed to
impress. Anyway, we went on our way, me seriously shivering and really
mad, to do some sniff 'n stroll along the perpendicular side street in
order to accomplish the mission. It was closer to the dumpster anyway.
Still! Ten minutes of the whole I'm gonna call the cops if your dog (you
all know the word), blah, blah... Who needs it?

Then there was the time... Oh, never mind. If I had a quarter for every
time my dog has been accused of always leaving her stuff in places we've
never been before... I would live in a less rainy climate! I stopped
paying attention a few years ago, and don't even bother to be annoyed. I
pretty much wave a bag at whomever is doing all the shouting of the "s"
word and let it go at that.

What is so special about anyone that they feel called upon to harass a
guide or service dog user over the fact that their dog has bodily
functions Honestly! How low can you go...
