[nagdu] Training

Hi Dar,
My preferred time to go to Seeing Eye is in the fall classes. I'm
originally from that basic region of the country. I grew up just outside of
NYC in Connecticut.

If you get the September class, the weather can be transitional - hot and
humid one day and cool and cloudy the next. Basically, the days are still
warm and there are rainy days. Bring clothes to layer and rain gear. If
you get the October class you can still have plenty of nice days but the
class ends in November. Very rarely will you get snow during this time but
it isn't totally unknown to happen. the early mornings can get quite
chilly - 30s and even high 20s. Sometimes there can be a little "black ice"
that usually melts when the sun comes up. there can be rainy, chilly days.
It can be windy in Morristown but i think the students get to sit in the new
downtown lounge to wait for your turn to work with the instructor. For this
class, bring plenty of clothes that you can layer or bundle up with. Oh, if
you have any sight at all, you'll get to see the wonderful foliage!

The times it tends to be really icy and snowy are the December, January,
February, and sometimes even during the march class. My Seeing Eye classes
have been in March, May, September, and October classes. For me, if I can't
get into the October class, I'll just tell them I'll wait for the spring
classes and avoid the worst of the winter. I can't walk on ice either and
my arthritis will be really bad back there in the cold, raw, wet weather
then.

Hey, want a slow dog! that describes Landon LOL! Those aren't really that
hard to find. But it does matter what dogs are currently in the strings of
dogs there now or are due back in for training. The dogs for the fall and
winter classes are just starting to come in from the puppy raisers to get
their four months guide training before they are ready for classes. Also,
tell them you can come in on short notice if they have a good dog for you
and there's a cancellation. that happened like that for me when I went to
get Jacob in 1999. It worked for me. Also, be open as to breed and sex of
the dog.

I know how hard it is to be in the after acceptance stage and the wait for
the class date time. It is hard to plan other things and you have to tell
folks, "Yeah I can do that IF I don't have my dog class then." It will
come. they do a great job of matching a good dog. I wish you lots of luck
and enjoy New Jersey. You'll get a trip to NYC - usually Times Square. I
forget, will this be your first time at The Eye or are you a returning
student?
