Bibi,
What is the purpose of the railing around the relieving area? How do
you touch your dog while they are relieving to figure out what's going
on? Or maybe touching the dog during relieving isn't done at guide dog
schools? I don't touch Monty while he's going very much anymore because
I'm very familiar with his habits, but in the beginning it was good to
know what was going on.
I really want a Boxer for my next guide and Pilot is now the only
program that has them. A Doberman would be my second pick and I think
Pilot and that new program in Mississippi are the only places.
It seems that there is a lot of variety in the training at Pilot
depending on which trainer you get. That's not necessarily bad, it's
just different than what I understand about the other programs. Would
the Pilot grads, especially those who have had more than one dog from
there, agree? To me, it looks more like a group of private guide dog
trainers that work from one location rather than a very strictly uniform
training regimen. I'd be very interested in your thoughts.
