I think you may have me confused me with someone else.  My retired goes to the vet in her harness if she is going in for a regular exam or blood work.  As does my young working dog.  If I bring them in at the same time, then only one works.  
If my dog is too sick or old, or just can't work then she will not wear the gear, and we will find a friend to take us instead of riding the bus.
