[nagdu] Dogs and instructors

hey I never thought of that they do say ! get my dog under
control which I have no problem doing. I just have a problem
with him guiding when the instructors jet too far ;his us. The
trainers say it's because they are pack animals and they don't
want to leave the rest of their pack behind.

The trainers can be testing you to see if you are handling him
correctly. In a situation where there is a distraction. Because
he
may pull you down. so always be on your guard (and your toes)

I ahve to constantly be aware of what my dogs movements and
approaches are.

But the trainer if she just says Hi Wiz." He goes nuts.

I did the obedience commands with the trainer here. "Sit, down,
 stay,
come" and so on. If she didn't obey i corrected. If the
trainer
 is
there with you go for it. If Wizzard focuses on the trainer
turn
 Wiz
away from the trainer and try that until he gets it right.

If that's a good Guide dog like you say he will aim to please
 you.
 Praise is everything.

  Sarah
Leone really missed me a lot. they also ahd her ona diet. .
  So she
was about what she is now at 70 pounds. I'm her mama peach.
 she
  waas
so very ahppy to see me and ran right up to me. Although she
  was
attracted to her trainer Michal Anna she knew I'm her boss and
  she
stayed. Michal Anna worked with us a few days then returned
 back
  to
the school to prepare for your class.

Always always always do the obedience commands before even
going
  out
to potty in the mornin. the boy will learn fast.

I had that happen with me, Sarah. And voice commands and
   correction
just don't seem to work and i ended up dragging the dog. LOL
   Today
is better though then back then.

She was taken away for 2 months of training. (summer school)
   Now
with mostly voice commands alone she obeys. She ahs not
really
   pulled
much. It's some getting used to. I'm a new dog handler
 myself.
Leone is my first dog. We learn as we go along.

They try to make the dog more excited? That really doesn't
 make
    any sense.

What exactly do you mean by this.

Did you talk with the instrutors about it? When I had a
  similar
problem, I found the dog would work for me in places we
 hadn't
been before. Be sure you are talking about it.

Motley only wagged his tail at the trainer once when she
came
     over with some
scissors to cut the hair around his eyes.

We were told to keep the dogs under control.

It wasn't easy at the beginning, but we did it somehow.

     Hello everyone,
When you first got your dogs, did your dogs go nuts when
they
     saw
the trainers? What did you do? Did you let them go nuts and
  say
hi to the trainers or get them under control?

     Hi all,

When I first came home from Pilot with Motley, the trainer
 and
     my
     mobility
instructor worked on my area with Motley and I.

My mobility instructor seemed to be familiar with guide dogs
     because she and
     the trainer go way back.

Anyhow, she was able to help Motley and I along with routes
   here
     in my
neighborhood, and it's worked out great!

     All my best,

     Chantel and Motley

I know that lots of these folks don't know much about dog
 use,
     but as they
show us a route, can't we tell them what we need? That's how
     I've
     dealt with
     any here.

how much they get to learn in the space of a couple of days.
   In
     other
words, do they learn enough to be able to help someone learn
 a
     route or to
know what the dog is or isn't dong or the owner is or isn't
