Yeah in harness, I will not even let a child pet him because he
gets too excited about children.

I'm with rhonda there.

Even in a restaurant and little kids of 2 or 3 years old bounds
up all
squeaky like "Doggie!" I gently put my hand on Leone and say
politely to the hild "No" She's working.

Especially in harness.

Out of ahrness if it's a family member or friends child i allow
it but
in harness no way.

you've
 got
the dog under control under normal circumstances.

they just talk high-pitched to the dog, which he loves. Then
when he's guiding they'll be far off behind us and Wizard won't
go forward unless there right behind us even though they try to
be a few bleks back. It's very frustrating and today I feel
 depressed.

They try to make the dog more excited? That really doesn't make
 any sense.

What exactly do you mean by this.

Yeah I'll ask Emceafor about it, but the last time they just
 said
that the dogs will always get excited.

Did you talk with the instrutors about it? When I had a similar
problem, I found the dog would work for me in places we hadn't
been before. Be sure you are talking about it.

With Wizard, he drags me out the gate to get to Emily and will

get a few feet behind us, he won't go. They wanted to stay a
 few
blocks behind us but Wizard wouldn't hop up and I don't know how
 to fix it.

Motley only wagged his tail at the trainer once when she came
 over with some
scissors to cut the hair around his eyes.

We were told to keep the dogs under control.

It wasn't easy at the beginning, but we did it somehow.

 Hello everyone,
When you first got your dogs, did your dogs go nuts when they
 saw
the trainers? What did you do? Did you let them go nuts and say
hi to the trainers or get them under control?

 Hi all,

When I first came home from Pilot with Motley, the trainer and
 my
 mobility
instructor worked on my area with Motley and I.

My mobility instructor seemed to be familiar with guide dogs
 because she and
 the trainer go way back.

Anyhow, she was able to help Motley and I along with routes here
 in my
neighborhood, and it's worked out great!

 All my best,

 Chantel and Motley

I know that lots of these folks don't know much about dog use,
 but as they
show us a route, can't we tell them what we need? That's how
 I've
 dealt with
 any here.

We have an O and M instructor in this area who's very familiar

 one

the O and M instructors at our private blindness agency know
 about dogs,
too, but, yes, those are few and far between. I know some of
 the
 schools
offer O and M people the opportunity to work with a dog, etc.,
 but I wonder
how much they get to learn in the space of a couple of days. In
 other
words, do they learn enough to be able to help someone learn a
 route or to
know what the dog is or isn't dong or the owner is or isn't
 doing.
