Agreed. It just seems like if I'm going to trust thi s dog, then it needs to be able to deal with being a member of the household. Six months is a long time. My kid adjusted to school in less time. Seems that an animal that has no concept of time should do it within a few weeks.

It also seems likea dog that can guide safely can also use some brain power to not destroy the house.

I agree. I can understand and work with a puppy who chews on things,
but an adult dog should be past that. I also don't think it should take
a dog 6 months or a year to settle into a new home. I think a few weeks
is reasonable to keep an adult dog on leash or crated when not directly
being supervised in a new home, but after that time and gradual
additions of more and more freedom in the house with instruction on what
is expected an adult dog should be a well mannered addition not a holy
terror. Sorry I just can't deal with a dog who isn't pleasant to live with.

I know dogs will be dogs, but not all dogs chew everything in sight. Also if the dog is worked enough, no board, then there is no reason for a pup to chew on things in the home. We as handlers can influence our dogs not to chew on things. Like I said this is my opinion only.
