[nagdu] Service dog ID required at Statue of Liberty

Christel,

No ID is legally required here in the U.S.  I don't have one and I see 
no point in having something that isn't required.  For a long time I 
carried copies of the applicable laws, but I haven't even carried those 
for several years now.  I've only ever been asked once for an ID for 
Monty.  An explanation of the law sorted that out and all was well.

I'm not sure exactly why some people think the ID is required.  I don't 
think it helps anything that all the schools hand them out, giving the 
impression correct or not that they should be shown.  I do think the 
guide dog programs are doing a better job of explaining the laws than 
they used to.

All that said, I have no idea what is necessary to enter the U.S. with a 
guide dog.  However this procedure is separate from what is required 
once you are here and wanting to go into shops and restaurants.
