Thank you Julie.
Anybody have a telescoping cane from Ambutek or NFB?

Both, it's as big around as a quarter or a bit larger. When collapsed
it's 9 inches long. I bought the longest length available and it's too
short for me to use as a regular cane. It's supposed to be 56 inches
long, but I would guess that it's a bit shorter than that when I compare
it to the 60 that I normally use. It works nicely for the random and
intermittent use that I need to check out something when I'm working
Monty. It also has a plastic tip, which would wear down quickly if you
used it a lot outdoors. I bought it from ILA. I thought I paid $30 for
it, but the web site says it's $40. Here's the link:

Then you'll have to remember the number of steps until you reach the curb. I think it's great that Monty checks each step and holds fast until you direct him forward. Don't forget about your cane just because your using a dog, they are both valuable tools for mobility. Hope this helps.

I could avoid it, but I don't like to do that unless it is absolutely necessary. The streets are quiet, old, narrow, brick residential streets, so walking faster across the street isn't a huge issue. I guess it's not a big deal to work each step as if it were the curb. It's just a bit stressful for me to not know when I'm entering the street at my first step into it. Checking with my foot for the next step doesn't work well because the steps are spaced further apart than is typical. There is no handrail.
