Sarah,
You asked how long it took to train my own guide dog. I got Monty as an
older puppy in August and it was October of the next year before I felt
he was at the level where he could go to work with me. So that's 14
months of daily work, every day rain or shine, whether I felt like it or
not. Owner training is an incredibly large amount of work. It can be
done if you have the knowledge and skills or are willing to acquire
them. But I think mostly it takes commitment. I don't mean the sort of
commitment like that sounds fun or I might like to give that a try. I
mean feel it in your soul, eat, sleep and breathe commitment
Julie
