[nagdu] Dogs interacting

I personally prefer that my dog keep his nose to himself and that other guide dogs leave him alone when he is in harness. I know this type of situation is handled diferently by each handler, but in my mind, the dog is working--period. So I want him completely focused on his job even when he is jsut standing or sitting by my side or is under a chair or table. The Seeing Eye refers to that as passive work, and the word work implies that the dog is on duty.

So if another handler attempts to let their dog greet Griffin, the person is going to be politely asked to reel their dog back in. I would hope that I would not have to become forceful with my request, but that could certainly happen. If multiple requests are ignored, I put some serious distance between me and that person from then on any time we encounter each other at that or subsequent events.

I don't mind a dog meet and greet if I'm not busy with something else, but
I want to say when it will and won't happen. I would think, if I were
coming somewhere for a professional meeting, I definitely would not want
to be playing meet-and-greet.

My old dog Echo was attacked twice, and became wary of strange dogs. She
was very uncomfortable having strange dogs get real close to her. It
drove me crazy, when I explained to other guide dog users that she was
afraid of strange dogs, and they still let their dogs crawl right in her
face under the table. If I tell someone please to keep their dog away from
mine, and even explain why, I want my wishes respected.
