HOnestly, the relieving is the biggest thing I would advise. There were a few times where Stockard needed to be relieved short notice due to stress. Always keep calm when your dog tells you that he/she has to go, but it's important when they signal that they need to relieve that they get relieved. I made sure to take Stockard out the few times she indicated that she needed to go, and things after that were just fine.

I usually try to leave meetings a little early to avoid crowds, and I don't attempt to push my way onto elevators that are already crowded; and I stay a little out of the crowds when the are surging. I do try some down time with the dog during the day, usually between meetings, but I don't stay out exceptionally late nights. My dogs, especially at their first conventions, have been relatively frazzled by the end of the week. They have bounced back quickly. I try very hard to keep to their food and relieving routines. With mine, I would attempt to let it get to know the dogs with which he has a problem, but I'm not taking him this year because of that issue. I think the only thing I can think of that you could do early is to get out among a lot of people and work crowds, and, in general, just work the dog a lot. I think that may be one problem for mine. There is just not enough going on in his life; then he is subjected to the other dogs and it may be too stressful. I kind of like getting to convention a little early so we can learn a lot before there are crowds, but that isn't always practical.

Some dogs when stressed have to go more frequently, so if your dog suddenly feels the need to go, just be understanding. I heard that somebody's dog pooped in the hotel at convention last year, but I have no idea if this is true. I would also just make sure that you give yourself, and your dog, plenty of time to get to the various events at convention. Your dog might take a little longer to get through the large crowd of blind people, so a little extra time is always good. I know convention is always crazy busy, but if possible, I would schedule a little down time in your room in the middle of the day for you and your dog to rest.
