I am going to get boots for Louie here in Michigan. I do not want the salt to miss up his paws

It is going to be 15 below zero up here in Minnesota, I think boots are a good idea.   I do wonder when you decide boots or no boots.   If you are going to be standing at a bus stop for a time, boots. If the dog is going outside to do his duty in your backyard, no boots.   I have always felt that with the big dogs, that if they are out playing and running around in snow, then I don't think boots are in need, but when they have to be standing and walking on sidewalks, and parking lots, that are icy and cold, then I think boots are a good thing.  Remember your dog is barefoot, even if he has furry feet.

Methinks that dogs wearing boots is often highly over rated.  That fact that
the dog doesn't like them is sending an obvious message.

Unless you have had issues with an unbooted dog, why go through the bother.
If you really need to have the dog wear any foot coverings, there has
already been discussion on conditioning acceptance; Coles notes, do practice
when in a safe secure place, like at home with appropriate rewards.

Doug: My dogs do not believe these boots are made for walkin'.

:I have never thought of getting my dog a winter cote, because as a German
: shepherd he has a thick double cote. I do however have a set of boots for
: him I got at REI. How do you accustom your dog to boots? My dog just
refuses
: to ware them.
:
:
:
: My other question is my dog still has his dewclaw. How do you avoid this
: getting irritated or injured by the tops of the boots?

: Thanks,
