Dear Karl,

	I'm so sorry the situation isn't improving; it isn't so safe for you
and the Tucker Man if things continue as they are, and I know you don't like
to feel shut in--that is why many of us get guide dogs--but I applaud you
for continuing to stand up for yourself.

I hate to say it but these types of events are becoming more commonplace,
especially in urban areas. I don't know if these stories are becoming more
prevalent because it's actually happening more, or there is a growing
backlash against incorrectly perceived "special" treatment we receive under
law, or if efforts by NFB and similar groups are bringing more public
attention, or a combination thereof.

I myself am dealing with an ongoing problem regarding aggressive trespassing
and scrounging by people in my area. They have physically attacked me and my
guide on the grounds of my apartment building twice since July; despite
repeated sweeps the police haven't been able to reduce the incursions and
are getting tired of my repeated calls to their non emergency line. My
landlord has posted "No Trespassing" signage, which does nothing but does
cover her in care a perp tries to wiggle out of a charge.

Since I'm actually standing up for myself I'm being made out by other
tenants to be the bad guy (the old "why do *you* get special treatment? I'M
SPECIAL TOOOOOO!!!" argument) because the naïve impression is that these are
homeless committing these acts when in truth it's local residents who live
in their own apartments and houses and certainly wouldn't stand for people
digging through their dumpsters, destroying their landscaping and leaving
crap all over the place. Ultimately, I will have to move because I no longer
feel safe in my community nor do I have faith that neither my landlord nor
the police can or will adequately address my concerns.

I hope both man and service dog recover and get justice.

SEATTLE -- A driver viciously attacked a pedestrian after nearly hitting the
man and his service dog as they crossed the street last Sunday in Magnolia,
according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report for the incident, the victim was crossing
with the signal at the intersection of 20th Avenue West and West Dravus
Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. when a driver made a left turn without
yielding.

Witnesses later told officers the driver showed a complete disregard for the
safety of the pedestrian, missing him and his dog by inches.

As the driver went by, the victim yelled and slapped the door of the car,
according to the report. The driver stopped, got out of his car and
confronted the victim.

According to the report, the victim and driver got into a verbal argument
before the driver punched the victim several times, knocked him to the
ground and slammed his head into the pavement.

A number of people stopped to help the victim, and the driver got back into
his car and left.

Witnesses gave the car's license-plate number to police, but officers were
unable to find it in the area. The car is registered to an address in
University Place, but last year it was broken into only a block from where
Sunday's incident occurred.

The victim suffered a large cut to the back of his head and a possible
concussion. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
