Hi list,
Wow, this story is just incredibly shocking!
Yes, at times, if a car cuts me off or almost hits me (when I know it was safe for me to cross) I've been tempted to whack the car with my cane, or to throw a bag of dog poop at the car (evil grin). I've never done it, but I've found it very tempting in this area since I have a traffic check just about every day. I couldn't imagine if the driver got out of their vehicle and started to beat me up! Talk about road rage, how horrific!
I hope that the victim and the dog are able to recover from this.
Deanna and Pascal

This kind of thing has to stop; maybe the guy should not have slapped the car, but I'm sure he isn't the only one who has done it before--I know I have--hoping to bring awareness to drivers, but in today's world, it might be more possible the disabled person, with his or her dog, would be attacked.
Shame on the police department; it shouldn't be that darn difficult to find out the car's owner and access several databases to find out where this person is, and he should pay any medical costs and be charged with assault or whatever Washington's law ibis.

SEATTLE -- A driver viciously attacked a pedestrian after nearly hitting the man and his service dog as they crossed the street last Sunday in Magnolia, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to the police report for the incident, the victim was crossing with the signal at the intersection of 20th Avenue West and West Dravus Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. when a driver made a left turn without yielding.

Witnesses later told officers the driver showed a complete disregard for the safety of the pedestrian, missing him and his dog by inches.

As the driver went by, the victim yelled and slapped the door of the car, according to the report. The driver stopped, got out of his car and confronted the victim.

According to the report, the victim and driver got into a verbal argument before the driver punched the victim several times, knocked him to the ground and slammed his head into the pavement.

A number of people stopped to help the victim, and the driver got back into his car and left.

Witnesses gave the car's license-plate number to police, but officers were unable to find it in the area. The car is registered to an address in University Place, but last year it was broken into only a block from where Sunday's incident occurred.

The victim suffered a large cut to the back of his head and a possible concussion. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
