[nagdu] Dog washing

Janice,

The bottle of gel I'm just using up after years, I got from Wal-Mart in
the summer sun lotion section. /smile/ So it's just 99 percent pure aloe
vera gel and was pretty inexpensive! It's nice on mosquito bites as well
as sunburn for humans, too. /smile/

The gel seems to soak in or dry off enough that the dogs don't really
lick it. It just loosens the dirt and brushes out with it, from what I
can tell. So that's why I got hooked after I used it in desperation one
time for a bit of dry skin on the poodle tummy. Just this Thanksgiving,
my sister's lab clued us in to how well it does to both cleanse and
deodorize those spots where said lab finds something stinky and fresh to
roll in down at the Fair Grounds. Teehee. I'd brought out white vinegar
for her, too, for the stink, but apparently the aloe vera gel took care
of that. /smile/

I ended up using the gel and/or olive oil on Mitzi's pads when they're
rough instead of something like Bag Balm because she does lick residue
off... So I figure olive oil in that small a quantity is okay or even
healthy, as opposed to anything with a mineral oil or petroleum jelly
base. Also, cheap! /lol/ And I can use just basic oatmeal shampoo if I
must bathe the poodle, then the other stuff for added conditioning.

I started out with the fancy, special, super duper spendy stuff for
grooming and everything else, then got too poor to replace it and got
creative with on-hand home remedies, the cheaper the better! /smile/

hth,

Tami
