I never let go of the leash at the airport and I am partially sighted. Cagney will set off the alarms every time so she just wags her tail the while she is patted down, she lives it she sometimes lays down and everybody smiles and laughs at an otherwise stressful job for everyone. I see nothing wrong with that.  I do go first, put Cagney in a sit holding in to her leash while I go through than I call Cagney still holding on to that leash
